About Doug

I am a product coach with 30+ years experience helping pre-growth products achieve their fullest potential.

My passion is helping great products reach their highest potential through product management best practices — and I know what it takes to deliver success.

I've boiled key elements of the product journey down to a standard set of 37 ‘growth requirements.'

I didn't make them up. These are known best practices that successful founders, product owners, and product managers know from experience.

I've just made them accessible, clear, and simple.

These growth requirements guide everything I do with my clients.

I have helped develop, launch, and market hundreds of medical device and MedTech products. These products have been used by millions of people, and continue to help people feel better and perform better worldwide. They include:

  • Orthopedic Braces & Supports
  • CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) Machines and Masks
  • EPAP (Exhalation Positive Airway Pressure) Device
  • Orthopedic Casting Material
  • External Fixation Devices
  • Ergonomic Devices
  • Total Shoulder Replacements
  • Shoulder Fracture Fixation Devices
  • Minimally-invasive Total Knee Replacement
  • eHealth Platform for Sleep Apnea Managment
  • eHealth Program for Posure Releated Neck Pain
  • eHealth Program for Sleep Health
  • Electronic Medication Administration Record (eMAR)
  • Point-of-Care Management System
  • Digital Medical Education Publishing Platform

My experience is unique because of the type and sheer number of products I've had the pleasure of managing. This experience contributes to the value I bring to my clients and students.

All products are high-stakes. But medical devices and medtech products often have extra-high stakes in terms of the significant financial and human consequences of an unsuccessful product. These types of products are also heavily regulated.

Throughout my journey, I have developed a profound respect for managing key deliverables in each phase of product development. Many of the rigorous product development processes that medical device and medtech companies follow are imposed by the FDA. In the best organizations, this level of rigor extends beyond the development process and permeates into the marketing and commercialization aspects as well.

At its heart, successful product management is simple — it's just about giving people what they want and need.

But there are countless things that can go wrong on the way to matching a solution to a set of needs and then creating, launching & marketing a profitable and valuable product.

Process and experience are what keep you on the right path.
